A Unique State

PAGO CALZADILLA PAGO CALZADILLA is located in the Río Mayor valley at an altitude of between 900 and 1000 metres. The special microclimate of this valley, with frequent mists and winds, protects our vineyard from the danger of spring frosts.

PAGO CALZADILLA currently has 20 hectares of vineyards under limited production. These vines were planted in 1980, with 3 varieties: Tempranillo, Garnacha and Cabernet-Sauvignon. In 1992 we introduced the Syrah variety, all in espalier systems, with most of them located on the slopes of the Cerro La Pájara at 1,000 metres above sea level.

Grapes are handled with loving care throughout our harvesting and winemaking processes. Picking is done entirely by hand in 15-kg boxes. Before fermentation the grape bunches are carefully selected and cooled. Grapes are crushed, and must and wines are transferred, entirely by gravity, without the use of pumping systems.
